Luigi Musso was the son of an Italian diplomat, the youngest child in his family. He began racing an old Giannini because the Maserati he coveted was not affordable for him. He ascended the ladder of competitive racing, becoming the lead driver for the Maserati factory team and, after the 1955 season, switching to Ferrari. His promising career came to a quick and untimely end at Reims, France in the 1958 Italian Grand Prix. His Ferrari leaped an embankment and Musso was fatally injured. His romantic life was comparable to his racing life. Playgirl/Writer Doris Lilly and Italian actress Fiamma Breschi were two of his celebrity girlfriends. Luigi also raced Ferrari sports cars at Sebring, Le Mans, the Targa Florio (Sicily) and the Mille Miglia (Italy).
