Making Home From War is a sequel to From Our Side of the Fence, a collection of writings by twelve Nisei former internees and the product of a writing workshop sponsored by the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California and taught by University of San Francisco professor Brian Komei Dempster. The first book, published by Kearny Street Workshop, concentrated on the internment experience; this book concentrates on the painful, ongoing, and underexplored process of relocation. Essentially a community history, the writing is moving but not polished. A foreword and introduction give the collection context, and, like the first in the series, the book will include appendixes geared toward people who want to write their own stories.
