    Sobre

The author, John Gregory Bourke 1843-1896, was a Captain in the Cavalry of the United States Army and a prolific diarist and post Civil War author. He served as an aide to General George Crook in the Apache Wars from 1870 to 1886. As Crook's aide, Bourke had the opportunity to witness every facet of life in the Old West--the battles, wildlife, the internal squabbling among the military, the Indian Agency, settlers, and Native Americans. Bourke kept a diary in sequential journals, documenting his observations in the West. He used these notes as the basis for his later monographs and writings including this book; "The Medicine-Men of the Apache; Ninth Annual Bureau Of Ethnology Report: 1888." John Bourke wrote several books about the American Old West, including ethnologies of its indigenous peoples. In a preface by Viennese psychiatrist, Sigmund Freud to one one Bourke's Books. Freud wrote: "He was recognized in his own time for his ethnological writings on various indigenous peoples of the North American Southwest, particularly Apachean groups." "The Medicine-Men of the Apache" contains Bourke's first hand observations of this fascinating subject as well as his research into the parallels of like practices throughout man's history. He makes a strong case for his argument that many cultures & religions developed startling similar beliefs and religious ceremonies from the ancient eastern world through the modern cultures of Western Europe.
