In the 1960s an art historian friend invited Lois Langlois to travel to Burma with him. She did some reading and discovered what a magical, mythical place it was, full of romance, political intrigue, legendary kingdoms, caparisoned elephants, great gems, art, and complex history. She didn’t go with him, but she kept thinking about Burma. The country called to her softly ever since, even when it experienced massive political changes and acquired a new name, Myanmar. Thus, when a friend in Thailand extended an invitation in 2014 to come visit, Lois plus a couple of other friends accepted. During their stay in Thailand they flew to Myanmar and enjoyed a nine-day adventure there. They did not find any decked-out elephants, but they did have a fabulous experience. Here is Lois’ travel journal.
