Henry Van Dyke (Nov 10, 1852 - Apr 10, 1933) was an American author, educator, and clergyman. Educated at Princeton, Van Dyke graduated from its theological seminary in 1877 and became a Presbyterian minister. The New Era and Carry On is a short story by Henry Van Dyke. The Commandant of the Marine Hospital was at his desk, working hard, when the door of the room was flung open and the Officer of the Day rushed in. "Sir," he exploded, "the New Era has come." Why did the Era came now, and where has the previous one gone? What were they looking for, and what it has to do with habitants of the Hospital? Why does it have to make sense at all? Read, and you will find the answers. Maybe. Maybe not. No harm in reading that short piece anyway.
