This book is a collection of works drawn in a pointillist style. I traveled around Asia and Europe for 18 months in 1999 and 2000. After returning home from this trip, I spent much time completing these pictures based on the sketches I had drawn in various places I visited.
I usually chose buildings as my motif. Among them are Sagrada Familia, which has long been under construction, and the Arg-e Bam ruins in Iran, which were completely destroyed in the Bam earthquake in 2003. The ruins are no longer there but you can still appreciate them in my picture.
In pointillism, everything, including shades or depth, is expressed only by the differences in the density of the small dots. By using colored ink as well as black ink, I am now attempting to gain a richer sense of expression.
I selected some of the works here from my previous book, “Nishi-no-Sora-no-Moto (Under the Western Sky)” published by Bungeisha, Japan. Then I added 8 new landscape paintings of Istanbul. I am publishing this book because I really love drawing pictures in a pointillist style, and also because I would really love you to find them interesting and powerful and I hope you can realize pointillism’s potential.
I would be pleased if you could find this through my works.
