Princess and the goblin, the

George MacDonald (10 Dec 1824 ? 18 Sep 1905) was a Scottish author and Christian minister. He was one of the founders of fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow writer Lewis Carroll. His writings have been cited as a major literary influence by many notable authors including C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. MacDonald wrote several works on Christian apologetics and Christian Universalism as well "The Princess and the Goblin" is a children's fantasy novel. Eight-year-old Princess Irene lives a lonely life in a castle in a desolate kingdom. Her father is normally absent, and her mother is dead. Unknown to her, a race of goblins liven in mines nearby, long banished from the kingdom. One day, the princess explores the castle and discovers a mysterious lady, and thus her adventure begins.
