"What? Where am I?" Rylis asked as he came to.
"Alpha-A47."
"That's a..." he started, his mind still garbled from the sedative. "Research, right?"
"Not no more. Not since you, me, and my good buddy Larry broke orbit. Now it's a prison planet."
Rylis was bound, hands and feet together, lying on his side. He tried to sit up, but failed. "I was found guilty? I didn't even stand trial."
"You did," the Sergeant assured him.
"No, I didn't. The last thing I remember was standing over the man that attacked Katarina." The memory came flooding back to him. "What happened to my wife?"
Rylis doesn't know it wasn't an accident, that events leading up to that night stretch back years. He'll encounter desperate people, innocent people, and a familiar face while trying to figure out what happened. The rusted red nothing of Alpha-A47 doesn't care about his plight. Survival won't wait for an explanation.
EXTENDED DESCRIPTION: Only for those who wish to know more about the story before they start reading or enjoy mild spoilers.
Prison Planet is about a capable, but normal guy struggling to stay fed and hydrated in an inhospitable environment. Coupled with the unpredictable and dangerous nature of the prisoners he meets, Rylis must continuously evaluate what he's willing to do to survive. There's love, sex, and friendship, but also violence, manipulation, power struggles, and the occasional alien. During all of it, Rylis pounces on any insight or link to his wife's murder. That night wasn't a random act and he knows it, but solid information is difficult for him to acquire.
Throughout the book, the reader is privy to flashbacks from other people's perspectives that give insight into important characters Rylis meets, and trace the actual events that led to his wife's murder. These include but are not limited to assassination, corporate cover-ups, abusive relationships, and experiments on aliens.
***Warning-contains depictions of sex and violence not suitable for young readers.
