When I was a spotty teenager, immersed in my nineteen sixties world of The Beatles and Stones, Thunderbirds and Doctor Who, Milligan, Stanshall and Jerome K Jerome with Laurel and Hardy influencing everything I did, I sat down one day to write. I suppose I put down about five pages on my beaten up old solid iron tripewriter, which I dropped on my foot one day, smashing my right big toenail to such an extent that it still, to this day, won't grow properly.
Then, for about thirty years, it lay half-forgotten as I embarked upon a career of debauchery and jiggerypokery, interspersed with the odd ten minutes of common sense and responsibility. Yes, I know, i'm sorry, but I was young and impressionable and there was a mortgage to pay.
Anyway, there it sat until one day I happened upon it again and sat down at my newly-acquired Tiny pc, almost powerful enough to oversee the landing of a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth to batter out another ten pages or so, rewriting the thing from scratch. I never intended it to be anything more than a short story but it seemed to breed within itself, chucking forth more and more ludicrous ideas as it went until it became the basis of a trilogy, of which this is the first volume. I have no idea whether it's any good or not and I suspect many will say I should have left it where it was but, for better or worse, here it is. One day, I may even publish Volume Two, which is almost written, and Volume Three which isn't even started. That rather depends on the reception this gets and whether I can extend my natural lifetime long enough to complete the bloody thing. thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy........
