This latest innovative offering from this prolific poet is an amalgam of Samuel Rutherford’s (the 17th century pastor/writer) exceptional literary turn of phrases taken from many of his letters and created by Strand into theme poems that reflect these literary phrases therein , thus creating a poetic form thereof, which Strand has labelled this verse form as ‘phrasis’.
As a contemporay evangelical Christian , Strand is in ‘sympathy’ with much of Rutherford’s theology and, as a poet of some years experience of many poetic forms, and offers volume to ‘enrich the universal church’ and to bring Rutherford's letters to a contemporary audience.
