This book can be read by anyone who has any type of knowledge or creative inclination and able to document it. Once documented, it can be packaged and published at no cost and sold in the Amazon Textbook Store. The content can also include graphics, like photos taken on smart phones. So whether working part-time at home, on the road or interested in professionally self-publishing books, this book provides insight. It is an easy to read tutorial and demonstrates how easy it is to become a self-publisher.
In the book, “Self-Publishing from InDesign to the Amazon Kindle Store”, we are challenged by a small restaurant’s dilemma. The restaurant has collected recipes and assembled them into a MS PowerPoint cookbook, rich in graphics. They are looking for an efficient and cost-effective delivery process in order to sell their cookbook. In discovery, they learned that Adobe’s InDesign can be used as a tool for authoring the cookbook, and, through the magic of Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing, the cookbook can be packaged and sold in the Amazon Kindle Store. In order to move forward the restaurant owners wanted a Proof of Concept. Therefore, this book is a case study based on the Proof of Concept.
In reality though, this book is a tutorial on how to migrate a publication from Adobe’s InDesign to the Amazon Kindle Store. The Proof of Concept can be judged by reading the book, which is also rich in graphics and designed to be viewed in landscape mode. We integrated all the necessary components and documented the workflow. We did discovery two issues and suggested alternatives – neither were considered to be showstoppers.
This book is intended for anyone interested in learning how to migrate a publication created in InDesign to the Amazon Kindle Store. Although Adobe and Amazon documentation is very good there are a few quirks that make this book a quick study.
In any case, the ability to add graphics into a KDP book opens another door of opportunity and adds a new dimension for self-expression and creativity. Depending on your self-publishing requirements you may find this process to be a viable and valuable method of choice.
We also offer two other publications related to this subject matter: “The Eight Wonders of Self-Publishing”, which is basically a tutorial on establishing a self-publishing business using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing; and “Self-Publishing from PowerPoint to the Amazon Kindle Store”, which is the sister book to this publication and intended for Microsoft PowerPoint users.
