Shinjuku area is around Shinjuku railroad station, which is the most crowded station of Japan.
I live in Tokyo prefecture long time, and I have used Shinjuku station and walk around Shinjuku area for about 15 years. This introduction book is from my sight.
Shinjuku station is a big terminal station which counts over 2,000,000 users per day. (East Japan Railway Company, 2015) (Tokyo Metro, 2015) (Bureau of Transportation Tokyo Metropolitan Government, 2015)(Keio corporation, 2015)(Odakyu Electric Railway, 2015)
Those Sinjuku station users become users of Shinjuku area, so Shinjuku is very bustling. And this number of users is growing up year by year. Although population of Japan is reducing, that of Tokyo Metropolis is growing. Thus, many buildings is founded in Shinjuku every year and the town is growing.
Shinjuku has some big book stores, some big home electric appliances stores, many cafes, many shopping departments, many japanese-style bars.
Shinjuku area contains Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office, which has the viewing platform anyone can enjoy for free (at 2017/2). You can go Shinjuku by train from Tokyo Station and it takes less than 15 minutes.
