Now in 2017, aged 64 myself, I have arrived at the final book of the trilogy. It begins in late 2011, and despite Belle our Border Collie pup having arrived a few months ago, there is no sign of our urge to travel waning. With a world cruise behind us (Absent Voyagers: Tales from a World Cruise) and another three voyages to the lands of glaciers, geysers, and fjords but with some chocolate heaven thrown in (Restless Legs: A Wife on the Ocean Wave), it is time to float off once again. This book will present yet more ports of call, as diverse in their cultures as in their location. The ships we sail on provide the transport , entertainment, comfort, sustenance, and the chance to meet many interesting characters both on board and ashore. From the Arctic to the Aegean, the Bosphorus, Black Sea, and the Mediterranean, to the islands of the Caribbean and the Atlantic, it will immerse you in an atmosphere of history and exploration with detail and humour. It will meander off occasionally as I recall other places in another time. Belle contributes freely in her Pupdate, giving a new twist to this tale of travel. “Calamity” returns to print, as does “Dreary”.
The book visits 39 different ports, some of them more than once admittedly, so actually 68 anchorages, but exciting and distinctive on each occasion.
