Each sentence in this lesson includes one word with the Short A sound. The rest of the sentence is 100% sight words! This means that your child can learn to sound out a new word while practicing critical high-frequency words (also known as Dolch words).
This book is divided into four sections:
- Read the Short A Word with the Picture - learn to sound out the new word alone without any other distractions and with a context clue... a photo of the Short A word
- Read the Short A Word without the Picture! - next, have your child sound out the word without the picture to make sure the child is really reading the new word
- Read the Short A Word In a Sentence - Try the new word in a sentence. All the other words in the sentence are all sight words!
- Read the Short A Word In a Sentence Without the Picture - And last, let your child sound out the word without any context clues. This section shows ONLY the sentence!

- Sentences are presented with & without context clues!
- Text size is adjustable and can be changed on any eBook reader!
So what are sight words?: Many of the most frequently used words in English are difficult to sound out and instead, need to be recognized on “sight” for a child to become a proficient reader. Sight words can be known by other names as well including High-frequency words, Dolch words (named after Edward William Dolch, PhD who first compiled the list in 1936), Fry words (named after Dr. Edward B. Fry's who updated the list in 1996), Instant words, Star words and more!
