St. Cyril was the bishop of Jerusalem in the middle of the 4th century at the height of many of the most intense theological disputes. He was present at the council of Constantinople in 381 and helped ratify the final version of the Nicene Creed, the most basic statement of faith for all Christians.
Around the year 350 he formulated a series of Catechetical lectures which explained the basics of the faith. In this work excerpts from these lectures have been arranged in order to provide a commentary on the Creed.
