In the early1800s, the seeds of the Industrial Revolution were sown on the North American continent. Some of those tiny seeds germinated, grew, and eventually bloomed into large monopolies by the middle of the1860s. The vast amount of wealth created by the industrial giants during a time of little regulation resulted in the wealthiest families wielding their undue influence over governments, communities, and individual lives. Their companies became powerful corporations employing numerous people and generating an abundance of tax revenue. Sometimes the top management of these corporations focused only on achieving profits and wealth. In some cases, the people who ran the corporation thought they were omnipotent. They demanded their employees work long hours for low wages and fulfill their boss’s wishes with blind obedience or lose their job. Some corporations even tried to influence the country’s policies and laws. Congressmen were sometimes given large amounts of money in order to influence their votes on legislation giving their corporation undue advantage. Lawmakers were corrupt and greed was commonplace. In Takeover, the Beasley Investigation & Security Company takes on C & H Mining Corporation and its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Grayson Vanderhoot, when he uses government money for personal enrichment while the company teeters on the brink of bankruptcy.
