John Angell James (1785-1859) was a well-known Congregational minister and writer. His books were widely used in his day and dealt with many practical aspects of the Christian life.
The Anxious Enquire was written to guide those who are spiritually concerned in seeking the Lord Jesus Christ. Conscious of sin and its consequences, they cry with the Philippian jailor, “What shall I do to be saved?” The seeker is urged to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,” as the only means of finding peace for the soul. Common misconceptions are dealt with and every encouragement offered with all the warmth and concern of a true pastor. Its usefulness today will be rather as a guide for preachers and pastors in their evangelistic work.
First published in 1834, this work has been completely re-typeset for issue as an eBook.
