The Betrayal of British Industry (English Edition)

    Por J Brian Heywood

    Sobre

J Brian Heywood started his business life as a travelling salesman. He progressed through management to become head of the British end of an American toiletries company and years later to be head of the American end of a British food company. In between and after the second of these two jobs he worked as a management consultant.

This book concentrates on his management consultancy experiences working for major British companies and Government departments. Almost all these assignments dealt with the pro’s and con’s of joining what is now the EU. In one example he describes how in 1971, whilst working for the British Government in New York he came upon a secret database of British technology specialists living in the USA. Then thirteen years later whilst working with a British Government department trying to push the UK to the top of the technology world, he established that the database still existed. He used this in a proposal to 'bring back the brain drain'. It was accepted by all the relevant Government departments, because it was going to create an enormous boost to the British economy. To understand the loss of this golden opportunity you need to read this book. Appendices show that his claims on this and other subjects are genuine.

Depressed by a succession of strange actions by British Governments he tried a number of ways to get wake up messages over to the small and medium sized companies in the UK, but they all failed.

In the late 1990's he helped one large multi-national company to outsource its finance department to another multi-national and wrote a book about it. As a result some people wrongly assumed that he had 'invented' outsourcing. Partly to correct this view he wrote another book on outsourcing that was only intended for the UK market and had a key section on how to avoid outsourcing jobs overseas. The 'key section' resulted in the book being published in all the major languages, thereby creating no benefit to the UK.
