Adama Ibsen Disanka is a beautiful young girl-child-soldier, born for a father of Belgian lineage and a Congolese mother. At the age of seven, she misses her father’s love and care. Her mother Lora tries hard to combat the bitterness of life’s experiment and manages the family affairs by finding a job in the agro products giant M/S Diomi plantations.
One evening, after the work in the plantation, Adama and Lora are walking through the mud path beside the River Lualaba. She accidently meets Alfred Ngabo, a Rwandan refugee, who survives the Rwandan genocide. After some months close contacts with Adama’s family, Alfred’s mind frames the notion of love. But restrictions from her mother shatters his dreams. With a depressed mind, he walks away.
After two years, Alfred comes back. Today, he is the commander of the child soldiers’ army locally known as the ‘Kadogos.’ He has killed many that include Adama’s mother Lora. Albeit, she joins the ‘Kadogos’ and loves Alfred by hiding a battlefield in her mind―a love with suspense.
The flowerless springs depict the unforgettable pictures of the crying faces of geographically rich and practically very poor country and a thought provoking story of a family, friendship, love, poverty, manmade disasters and brutal murders. Adama represents the suppressed childhoods, not only from that country but the whole world―a should cease suppression.
