The full dental prosthesis (dental lab technology articles Book 8) (English Edition)

    Por Guido Kirchberg

    Sobre

The development of modern implants complies with all requirements for the successful design of a full set of dentures as opposed to loose fitting and painful prostheses of the past, as explained in the following article by Guido Kirchberg.

An edentulous jaw needs a full set of dentures! Up to a few years ago this statement was true. But flat jaw ridges offer insufficient support for a full set of dentures and retentive undercuts in the jaw ridge often create denture sores. Aesthetically and phonetically this type of restoration might be satisfactory but the actual function of the jaw, like the ability to apply a strong bite and chewing, is often impossible.
Things are not always what they appear to be. They are what you make of them. Nobody knows this better than the patient in the following case. After a long period of problems with various functionally and aesthetically poorly performing prostheses, the patient agreed with skepticism with her new dentist to another treatment and fabrication of a new dental prosthesis. Her main concern was the stability of her new prosthesis in the edentulous maxilla. She decided, after long consultations and some sensitive discussions, on a bridge supported by nine implants. Together with her dentist our technician team selected the Astra-Implant System.
According to clinical studies, the biomechanical advantages of the Astra-Implant design ensure a stable marginal bone level and therefore reliable long term aesthetics. The AstraImplant has the first chemically modified titanium surface that speeds up bone healing and bone regeneration. The microthread guarantees optimal load distribution. The accurately fitting conical implant abutment connection, which protects extremely well against rotation in every position with its multi interlocking system ensures a secure and stable hold. The special shape of the cut surface between implant and abutment causes the mucous membrane to tightly enclose the implant neck and thus protects the marginal bone from bacteria. This system is the basis for our restoration.
In case of future repairs, we would have liked to design a removable option but the patient insisted on a fixed cemented restoration.
