There are few activities and popular events that exercise more influence over the American psyche than football. Millions watch it every week on the boob tube, as TV was called when I was a kid growing up in Cambridge, Mass. Hundreds of thousands flock to their football colosseums to see their gladiators battle it out and leave their blood, sweat and tears on the turf.
Of the elite group of gurus (also known as head coaches) who preside over this phenomenon, few can boast real success, or even a lasting tenure in such a competitive and dog – eat- dog environment.
In the following pages I will attempt to highlight one such guru in particular, whose record in the regular season of 201-71 ( not to mention his record 25 wins in the post season) speaks for itself. He is the son of a coach, has been a coach for over 40 years in the NFL, and his children are all coaches. His name is Bill Belichick. He is loved and despised by many.
