Hugh Manvers was an Army Captain. He had served time in India and Tibet before returning to England. He then left for the Great War with the men from his village, leaving his wife Diana to look after the estate until his return.
He did return to her, though not in the conventional and physical way that he had expected to. Hugh had many lessons to learn and he was taught about reincarnation, karma and how to apply compassion by a Tibetan lama; who showed Hugh that the Halls of Learning are accessible to all who choose to enter them; and once Hugh had, he would never be again, as he was before.
Those around Hugh were also touched by him and they too tell their stories as they deal with the spiritual aspects of their lives.
