Irwin Molyneux is a quiet man. Happily secluded in a London suburb, he spends his days at work on numerous scholarly endeavours, with the occasional foray into detective fiction (under an assumed name of course). But then disaster strikes. Molyneux's cook resigns on the eve of a visit by his brother, the Bishop of Bedford - forcing Mrs Molyneux to take to the kitchens in her stead. Terrified of the social embarrassment that might ensue, the Molyneuxs decide to hide this train of events from the Bishop. Unfortunately, the Bishop has already leapt to more startling conclusions - and Molyneux finds himself wanted by the police for the murder of his wife...
