The Nuremberg Trials – The Complete Proceedings Vol 17: The Case against (The Third Reich from Original Sources) (English Edition)

    Sobre

This is the seventeenth volume in the complete proceedings of the Nuremberg trial of the German major war criminals before the International Military Tribunal sitting at Nuremberg, Germany.
Taken from the original court transcript this volume covers the proceedings from 20th June to 1st July, 1946 and represents an essential primary source for scholars and general readers alike. The transcripts are complete and contain the whole of the proceedings as taken from the original court documents.
This volume concludes the trial of Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect and the minister of Armaments and War Production.
The cases for Konstantin von Neurath and Martin Bormann are also included. Von Neurath served as Foreign Minister of Germany between 1932 and 1938, and played a key role in policies undermining the Treaty of Versailles and German territorial expansion. He served as Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia between 1939 and 1943, but was sidelined by the notorious Reinhard Heydrich and Joachim von Ribbentrop.
Martin Bormann was Hitler’s private secretary, and was constantly at the Führer's side. Bormann gained Hitler's complete trust and he derived immense power within the Third Reich by using his position to control informationa and access to Hitler. He was tried in absentia: his whereabouts were unknown and there were rumours of both his death and appearance in Moscow, Paraguay, Norway and Egypt. His body was eventually found in Berlin, and his remains were positively identified by DNA evidence in 1998. A post-mortem suggested that he had committed suicide by biting a cyanide capsule, almost immediately after the death of Hitler. There is still, however, a lot of controversy surrounding his death.
