    Ty Scurlock, orphaned at two years of age, lives with one foot in the white man’s world and the other foot squarely in the world of the Apache who raised him since he was a child. Now a man, he has taken a job working for Nathaniel Whitaker as the overseer at the Two Forks Ranch to the Apache who are working for him. Many of them are his friends. He has grown up with them. But Whitaker looks down on all the Apache who work for him and tries to influence Ty to do the same.
    Isi Proudfoot is an Apache who works on the ranch. Tall and beautiful, she works there in order to support her father who once was a proud member of the tribe, but has now turned to alcohol as the crops fail and the land turns dry. She misses living on the reservation and she wants to go back. But she knows for now she much stay here and work.
    Together they will take a chance to find the life that they truly want to have.
