Donald Tripple is the head of the secret homosexual society whose self-set goal is to be no different from heterosexual men. They create families and go about a “normal” outward life to avoid betraying their partiality to the “love” known in ancient Greece. But it is precisely that aspect of their natures – the special male bond they all share – which allows them to find and fill their proper niche in society.
Illarion Georgiev really does give his characters, and subsequently his readers, a puzzle to solve. His work consists of three novels centered around the story of the secret society of gays, whose leader decides to retire, leaving his able pupil, Bill Parker to take his place. In the meantime, his wife, - the anthropologist Jane Parker – and their two children travel to an archeological dig in Africa. Now the book becomes Jane’s novel, the book that she writes; in hopes of uncovering the secret of evolution, she discovers a truth much more vast. She is now the one to narrate the events and trials of both her own and her husband Bill’s life, as the latter breaks the most vital, important law of the secret brotherhood of gays…– keeping up the pretence and appearance of being a “natural.”
Donald Tripple sets about creating his own world, which he tries to base on restraining the play of passions and feelings of the man who suddenly understands that the object of his desire is someone of his own sex. Tripple’s society is no illusion – there are literally thousands of gay males in the world who prefer the mask of a “natural” in daily life. Some of these choose the path of sublimation: look at that talented couturier of men’s clothing – dozens of times he runs his hands along the male torso and perineum in order to create a true masterpiece of tailored art. Look at that charming sommelier - the taste and smell of exquisite wines are his alternatives to the touch of the most desirable man.
But Tripple’s theories come to a crash and burn when attraction and nature run their course. And the voice of love, seen here as a power of nature, rings out – and no one is strong enough to resist it.
Bill Parker, having gotten his first taste of real male love, will not stop until his lover begins meddling with his young son… and then Tripple will triumph once more.
