This account is a full SUMMARY of THE REVENANT, by Michael Punke. "Revenant" means one who returns. In the case of the book and the recent movie, Hugh Glass is a man crawling across an unforgiving wilderness to seek revenge on the men who left him behind to die alone. The book is a novel but has many similar historical situations, same real-life men, accounts typical of Native Americans back then, the incredibly rough life of fur traders in the early 19th century and an extreme focus on a real man named Hugh Glass. People have asked if it was true he was attacked by a bear and lived to tell stories about it. Yes, that's true. Sculptures and other pieces of art are around the United States commemorating Glass's unbelievable survival after almost being ripped apart by a bear and left to die. He had no gun, no knife. He survived by living by his wits and previous experience in the wilderness with what's believed to be the Pawnee tribe. The Revenant is a page turner for someone interested in the toughest men alive back in the early 1800s--the fur traders who had setback after setback. Many died, but the one man who should have, lived.
