George Whitefield (1714-1770) was greatly used of God in the "Great Awakening" both in England and in Colonial America. Whitefield was an extemporaneous preacher, not a writer. Consequently, less than 100 of his sermons have been preserved in written form. This book contains seventy-seven of them as well as a biographical sketch by the "Bishop of Liverpool," the eminent J. C. Ryle. Some of Whitefield's personal letters are contained, and especially interesting is the letter written to his friend, the Rev. John Wesley, concerning a doctrine in which they differed -- the doctrine of election. Biographical notes, clarifications, translations of Latin phrases, and illustrations have been added by the editor. This book has been completely re-typeset to be compatible with the features of the electronic reader.
