The Salvaging of Civilization, was a work on civilisational technics that was first published in 1921. Before and during the war Wells, was a somewhat of an optimist. He believed that the folly of war was something that could be overcome and finally put to rest. The Salvaging of Civilization sets about planning a World State for the future, foreshadowing both The Open Conspiracy and The New World Order, that he wrote in later years. In this book he lays out his plans for a World State, and enlarging patriotism from the nation state out into the world. He also lays out his plans for a new form of progressive education, that echo the radically progressive thinker Comenius.
