Three Weeks in the Gaeltacht: A Memoir (English Edition)

    Por M.C. O'Callaghan

    Sobre

It was the 1970s, and the author was ten years old. She was growing up in Ireland, in a Dublin suburb. One morning, she got on a train with her teacher and her classmates, and headed about two hundred miles south-west to the Dún Chaoin Gaeltacht in Kerry. They were going to the Gaeltacht for three weeks. The plan was that they would live with local families, attend the local school, speak Irish, and experience life in the countryside. The key aim was that they would speak Irish.

Dún Chaoin was full of surprises. Ordinary life there seemed extraordinary to the author. Everything was different – the landscape and the animals, the trip to school each morning, the way people spoke Irish, how they passed the time... Also, there was so much to see and do, so many trips to go on, so much to learn about.

This memoir is about life in the Gaeltacht in the 1970s, as seen through the eyes of a young Dublin girl.

The book contains about 22,000 words, and is suitable for children (from about age 8 upwards) as well as adults.

The author has also written the following books:
"Ways to Encourage Your Child to Write"
"Ways to Encourage Your Child to Read"
"Sixth Class in an Irish Primary School"
"Doing a TEFL course in Dublin"
"A Categorised List of 430 Irish Autobiographies and Memoirs"
