    Sobre

The official name for the Tsukiji market which is well known as “The Uogashi” is “The Tsukiji Market, Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market”.
The Tsukiji Market is Located in Tsukiji 5-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, and the area is 230,836 square meters.
The fish market in Nihonbashi and the vegetable market in Kyobashi were relocated to Tsukiji and reopened On February 11, 1935.
The current Tsukiji Market is a market dealing in fishery products, fruits, vegetables, poultry eggs, pickles and various processed food items. Especially it is one of the largest fish markets in the world.
The Tsukiji Market consists of the “inner market” where the wholesale business is taking place on the market premises under the control of Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the “outer market” which has many shops open to general consumers.
The outer market is almost the same as the ordinary shopping street, and it is crowded with general consumers and tourists seeking fresh marine products and the atmosphere of Tsukiji from all over the world all year round.
Recently, the restrictions on entry into the inner market have been relaxed and the media picks up the specialties of the Tsukiji Market, such as sushi and the seafood bowl, so now customers from home and abroad make a long line to enter the restaurants in the market.
Being more than 80 years since its opening, the Tsukiji Market, Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market was planned to relocate to Toyosu in November, 2016, but the relocation has been postponed due to the soil contamination at Toyosu.
In the photo book, I have gathered 100 photos which were taken mainly in both of the inner market and the outer market to show you the Tsukiji market as a part of history.
