Currently, there are numerous treaties regulating the field of disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Among them we can mention the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (CPAQ), the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Biological Weapons (CPAB), the Treaty on the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty - CTBT), among others. This concern is fully justified. There are still today, numerous arsenals of nuclear weapons, which are kept by the nations who own the technology. The catastrophic risk of proliferation to other nations causes mechanisms to be created, both bilaterally and in multilaterally, in order to avoid such an event.
In this book, we search to establish a brief history of the proliferation measures, pointing what has been working and what has failed.
