In any profile online you want to have several ways people can get to know you, exchange ideas with you, benefit from your experience and enjoy your resources. People like to know how they are similar to you or what experiences you have both shared. We want to feel connected, seen and valued.
Do you recognize yourself in my story below?
Can you find the connections or similarities?
Look at your own profile and consider:
Number 21: Can people find themselves in your story? Are there nodes of connection- connecting others to you and you to the world?
The other reason someone might look at your profile on LinkedIn or other social media venue is to learn something from you. We want to grow our opportunities, find a teacher, or follow a mentor. We want to live more successful lives, however we define success.
The first two sections are meant to get you thinking about who you are in the world and what you have to offer.
We will get into the specifics of how to improve the story you are telling on LinkedIn and in your other profiles in the second section: "Who are You? Who Do You Want to Be? What is in a Name or a Moniker?" and then we will go step by step through the possible ways to use LinkedIn to communicate YOU to the world.
Throughout this thought-provoking training manual are questions in italics.
- Consider them.
- Meditate on them.
- Answer them generally or in detail.
- Write out your profile in a Word document.
- Check it for spelling and grammar.
- Paste the sections that are appropriate into different profiles online.
Special Tip: At the end of the book in the resources section is a list of all the questions.
Free Bonus Offer: Opt in to my email list, "Ignite Your Story" at www.KimberlyBurnhamPhD.com for a free Word document with all the questions in the order they appear in this text.
Also consider how your story fits into the world: the business world, the entrepreneurial world, the world just opened by Amazon to Japan, the world of China and India and all the people there. How does your story speak to them? And what of the world of Europe, Germany and Italy. How will your story play in other English speaking countries like England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the whole of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Liberia, Canada and the United States. Are you telling a story with your LinkedIn profile that draws in people for whom English is a second language, in countries like the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Holland, Scandinavian countries and more?
What is your story? How are your storytelling abilities enhanced in your LinkedIn profile today?
