If you are just starting to race your sailboat, or have been doing so for some time, but are having difficulty breaking in to the upper echelon of your club fleet, then this book is for you. It takes each section of a race and breaks it down into simple bite sized pieces and tells you what is important to concentrate on at each point in the race.
Winning may seem to be unattainable when you start, but I believe that the necessary skills can be learnt by anyone and this book sets out to teach you what those are and how to get them. I have proved that this is the case many times when crewing for relatively inexperienced skippers. By coaching them at the start, and around the course, while I show their regular crew how to trim the sails. The result is that they usually break in to the top three for the first time and realize that they can do it, if they remember what I told them.
As I can't be everyone's crew, this book is my attempt to achieve the same result. There are lots of subtleties in sailing and this book only scratches the surface, but I firmly believe that the simple steps outlined here will get you 80% of the way to Winning and will be more than enough to dominate your club fleet.
If you get more ambitious and decide to attend a local or national championship, you will find that the other 20% will be needed to climb out of the teens. But even here, the main difference between the winners and the rest will be that the winners execute the simple things outlined here better and more consistently.
This is the first of a planned series of books on how to win sailboat races. The following books will go in to a lot more depth on each subject. Don't forget to sign up for my free Thank You gift so that you get an email notice when they become available.
