Beatrice Gaye Trout-Heron, known as Buffy, is a lesbian poet and dreamer transplanted from Nebraska to San Francisco. In Cast Beneath a Pisces Moon, Buffy dreamed about a woman and then met her in Amelia’s, a women’s bar. Their love affair has been rocky. Sabine Rader, a transplant from Long Island, moved to San Francisco to start the LGBN QTV Network. She has issues with her father and sisters and she does not trust Buffy.
Buffy has been in therapy with Faith Governor, with little progress. Together, they created the Virtual Inner Child, a wrist device patterned on the Virtual Pets of the 1990’s. They designed the device to help women get in touch with their inner child and to heal childhood wounds. Buffy also started the Homeless Garden Project, using the proceeds from her wildly popular Sinister Girls suspense novels that have been made into motion pictures. Her friends John Daniel and Eugenia are among the homeless who now work for her.
A poet who appeared on Oprah and almost got Oprah taken off the air because of her blatantly sexual lyrics, Buffy became the conduit for fiction when she attended a writing workshop called Hedgrove. She met Vendetta Horn and Annette No-Last-Name, the bearded feminist writer, at the writing workshop. Her Sinister Girls adventure series became a huge success.
Buffy’s married friends Jade and Vendetta adopted a Chinese baby, Ginger Peaches. Jade birthed a second daughter, Juneberry, fathered by Jeremy, a man she with whom she was sexually involved. Their affair almost ended Jade’s marriage, but now Vendetta is reconsidering her sexual hang-ups.
Buffy’s ex-lover Del Chalupa is currently in prison for attacking Buffy at the end of Cast Beneath a Pisces Moon, when her homeless friends came to her rescue. Buffy seems to have a star-crossed misalliance with women born beneath the sign of Pisces. Two of those women are Sabine Rader, the woman of Buffy’s dream, and Parrish Brenly-Burns, wife of the QTV network director.
Sabine suffered a nervous breakdown and disappeared at the end of Beneath the Inland Sea. Now she has reappeared in San Francisco, where she and Buffy attempt to renew their romance. Sabine is haunted by conspiracy theories, based on her father’s work with the CIA.
