    SAMPLE PROMPTS

    Dark Fantasy
Make the humans the bad guys for once. Have them hunt fantasy creatures to near-extinction, enslave them, or invade and conquer other worlds. Is your protagonist a human who realizes this is wrong, or a non-human who is captured or hunted? How can beings from both sides work together towards peace? What statements can you make about perspective in conflict, moral ambiguity, or group persecution?

    Sword & Sorcery
Your character works in a real-world setting where she could easily acquire a sword. Examples: an antique store, the Renaissance Fair, a museum. As she is handling one, she is transported to a war-torn realm. What is happening, and who does she join in the fight? Does the sword have any other powers? How does she make her way back to her realm?

    NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

If you're in a creative rut, know that I've been there, too. I spent far too long struggling with my inability to write, and it negatively affected several aspects of my life. That's why I wrote 100 Fantasy Writing Prompts – because I know what it's like to feel creatively empty, and I want to help other writers beat their own blocks.

In this booklet, I've combined techniques from my days in university (I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing) with the real-world lessons I learned from writing my own fiction novels. The result? A list of 100 prompts to get your creative gears spinning. But that's all I can do. The rest is up to you.
