The goal of this program is to improve the management of stroke and congestive heart failure. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Select appropriate treatment for acute stroke based on time elapsed since occurrence.
2: Work up large-vessel strokes with appropriate imaging studies.
3: Identify stroke patients who may benefit from anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy.
4: Determine whether heart transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with advanced heart failure (HF).
5: Recognize the feasibility of implanting mechanical circulatory devices, such as the HeartMate II, in patients with advanced HF.
