The goal of this program is to improve anesthesia management of patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator devices (ICDs). After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Identify the indications for ICDs.
2: Explain the significance of pacemaker codes.
3: Recognize and discuss the mechanisms that cause pacemaker syndrome.
4: List the benefits of cardiac resynchronization therapy.
5: Plan appropriate perioperative management of patients with ICDs.
